An herb spiral turns a small patch of ground into multiple growing zones.

One compact bed creates dry, warm areas and cooler, moist pockets — all in reach.

PLANTING LAYOUT:
• Top = sunniest, driest zone (rosemary, thyme, lavender)
• Base = cooler, moisture-rich zone (mint, parsley, lemon balm)
• Southwest slope for heat-lovers
• Northeast side stays shaded and humid

METHOD:
• Mark a spiral shape directly on bare ground
• Stack natural stone from the outside inward
• Gradually increase height toward the center
• Backfill with soil as you build to prevent settling
• Firm soil gently so the structure stays stable

GROWING NOTES:
• Space plants for airflow and easy harvesting
• Mulch lightly to control moisture
• Water less than flat beds — drainage does the work
• Heats up earlier in spring than ground-level beds

Herb spirals save space, reduce watering, and increase harvest variety.
They grow food efficiently while adding structure to the garden.
